El Lamento de Orfeo

Reclaiming the Web

As may be the case for several of us here, I've started exploring alternatives to current social media, inspired by the early days of the internet. This led me on an exciting journey. It was intriguing; I felt like I was on a mission, searching for clues, consulting with different people, sources... I didn't do a sophisticated search by any means, but it wasn't handed to me on a silver platter either; I was participating, not simply consuming. Without realizing it, I was already generating that primal experience.

One of the concepts I read about the most was "indie web," and I decided I wanted to participate. It was a decision, of course, but considering the choice not to left me feeling like I had words stuck in my throat, do you understand what I'm trying to describe? I have a calling to do it.

My coding "knowledge" is abysmal. Despite being young and having grown up with technology hand-in-hand with my baby bottle, I'm rather ignorant. I had computer science classes in high school, but also classmates who did much of the work for me. I know, it's not noble to admit, but it's my reality. I never felt curious about it, until now. I never thought I'd spend an afternoon keenly and excitedly following a computer science class and actively participating with the readings, by choice, no less!

I'm dreaming beyond my skills, but I already have some idea of the theme I want for my personal website. I want it to be something "messy," but honest. Perhaps a mix of Baroque or Renaissance artistic style, blended with something Gothic or metal, and with spaces to interact and leave comments, music, snippets from books or newspapers... We'll see how things unfold. I'll follow up with the blog!
